Behaviour Support

Understanding Behaviour, Building Brave Futures

Big feelings and big behaviours don’t happen in a vacuum. They’re usually a sign that something is hard, confusing or overwhelming – even if the person can’t put that into words yet.

At Brave Mental Health, Behaviour Support is about understanding the why behind behaviour and building safer, kinder ways to meet a person’s needs. Instead of focusing on “stopping” a behaviour, we focus on improving quality of life, relationships and daily routines for the person and the people around them.

What is Behaviour Support

Behaviour support is a specialised, evidence-based approach that looks at the link between someone’s environment, skills, mental health and behaviour. In Behaviour Support we:

  • Learn what is triggering or maintaining challenging behaviours
  • Understand what the person is trying to express or cope with
  • Build new skills and safer ways to get needs met
  • Support families, support workers and schools to respond in consistent, respectful ways

  • Behaviour support can include:

  • Behaviour therapy and behavioural intervention – step-by-step support to build communication, social and coping skills, while gently reducing behaviours of concern.
  • A detailed Functional Behaviour Report – explaining what is driving behaviour, what keeps it going and what needs to change in the environment.
  • An Interim Behaviour Support Plan – short-term safety and support when there are immediate risks or restrictive practices that need to be documented while we complete a full assessment.
  • Recommendation and Recommendation Letters for schools, GPs, psychiatrists, support coordinators and other services to help everyone stay on the same page.

  • Who is Behaviour Support for?

Behaviour support can help children, adolescents and adults who are experiencing behaviours that are putting themselves or others at risk, or getting in the way of everyday life. We commonly work with people who have:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Depression and mood difficulties
  • Anxiety or trauma-related distress
  • Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizophrenia and other complex mental health needs
  • Intellectual disability and other neurodevelopmental differences

  • Your Confidential Safe Space

Brave Mental Health is your partner in facing life’s trials with resilience and courage. We are dedicated to your well-being and growth, and we’re here to help you embark on your journey toward a healthier, happier you. Together, we can navigate life’s challenges, embrace wellness, and find the bravery within you.
